In C major the 12 bars are based upon degrees of the scale: C the tonic (I), F the sub dominant (IV) and G the dominant (V) degrees of the scale make up the 12 bar blues. These degrees are always used to make up the 12 bars, whatever key you are playing in. So for example, in the key of F the bars would be made up of: F the tonic, B flat the Sub dominant and C the dominant. |
